Let Freedom Ring

My family are natives to Mississippi. I have found only three documented slaves. They were free blacks who lived in Virginia. These siblings were kidnapped and sent to guess where? Mississippi.

Otherwise, I have a host of ancestors who were already there. Historically, many sit-ins, marches and rallies happened there in the 1960s. My aunt was one of many college students who were fighting for freedom. Freedom for copper colored people to travel, eat, go to school, and sleep where ever they would like.

"Whites Only"

"Colored Only"

History repeats itself and everything moves in a cycle. Fashion comes and goes and comes back around. Those McHammer pants were NOT an original concept. It just had a different flavor to them attached to a different trend. Discrimination and segregation is no exception to this cycle. We discriminate over EVERYTHING. We discriminate and segregate over race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, sexual preference, religious/ethical beliefs, citizenship, education level, influencer status. I can go into a rabbit hole of examples. We are manipulated to focus on a particular thing at a given point in time. All these categories create limitations. These limitations limit you.

Not too long ago, I had a really nice conversation with a person about the use pronouns to describe yourself. I left with a deep understanding of why it was important to her to use nongender pronouns. We discussed how as humans we all have both feminine and masculine energy. Her overall opinion was right on target. We are much more complicated than simply he/she. Unfortunately, it saddened me to know that all these pronouns was another way to divide and separate each other into categories. In that moment in time, I wanted this person to just be the name her mother gave her. I wanted her to be free to just BE and not be judged.

Let Freedom Ring.

True freedom starts from within YOURSELF. Most people are trapped and enslaved by thoughts, beliefs, habits, and ideals created by other people. Open your heart to the possibility of other possibilities! Ask questions. Be vulnerable. Be accountable to yourself to seek truth and understanding. Once you break down those false narratives, your mind, spirit, and even your BODY will heal and become FREE.
