Broom Salad – Balance Your Gut

Over the boys' Spring Break, we did a little road trip to visit several colleges and spend a little time with my brother and wifey. We had a great time!

We had some amazing food. By the time we made it home, my stomach was NOT happy.

I initially was going to do some water fasting (3-day water and then a serious diet adjustment).

I changed my mind.

💪🏾I wanted energy to continue my workouts.

🍒I have major food noise. I am THE MomUber and primary chef for my teens. The temptation is REAL. We are all over the city and sometimes quick food is the ONLY food.

🍿I love eating crunchy food (popcorn, chips, nuts, etc.)

During a YT binge-watch session, one of my favorite channels, A Healthy Alternative, gave a recipe for a broom salad. They use it for their fasting prep. I figured it would be a gentle way to get my stomach back in order without any extremes. There are many different recipes out there for broom salads. Swap out what works for you and get creative. The idea is to naturally clean out your digestive system and satiate your appetite.

BROOM SALAD RECIPE

  • 2 Cups of Shredded Cabbage

  • 2 Grated Carrots

  • ½ to 1 Apple

  • 2 Stalks of Celery

  • ¼ cup of raisins

  • 2-4 Dates

  • Fresh Parsley

  • Green onion

  • Juice of 1 Lemon

  • Salt and Pepper (or favorite seasoning)

  • Olive Oil or Avocado Oil

Combine and sit for 15 minutes.

I had enough ingredients to make 3 to 4 salads (depending on how hungry I was!). I added cucumber since we had one that would have gone bad.

This was the perfect combination of salty, sweet, and crunchy! It helped curb all cravings for junk. And for those of us with slower bowel movements, it kept me regular.

I combined the salad with fresh juices from Health & Combat. If I felt like I needed some protein, I added whatever was already prepared at home.

The icing on the cake is that I lost 4 lbs and haven’t regained it back.

I loved it so much that I bought everything AGAIN. I am not doing anything strict. I am not tracking my food. It's all about how I feel.

If you try the Broom Salad, let me know what it does for you!

Hugs!
