Simply Maintaining

Awhile ago, it clicked in my brain why New Years resolutions usually fail within 30 days or so. It's simply bad timing.

Where I live its cold, dreary, and possibly snowy in January. Motivation can be a big fat ZERO.
Who jumps up ready to go at 5am when it's dark with single digit temperatures?
It's TOUGH.
I noticed our gym did not have an influx of people in January. The gym didn't even promote a New Year, New Me program for January. They smartly started in February .
Think about this. If you did not gain any weight since October, you are WINNING! You've been surrounded by sweets and treats, parties and celebrations since Halloween. It is common for people to gain 10lbs over the holiday season.
I am looking forward to the time change and longer daylight hours. I look forward to warmer weather, beach time, and lake walks.
In the meantime, there is work to be done to keep the MIND right. Clean up the diet with less sugar and processed foods.
The shift is more aligned to successfully achieve your goals. When you're in a better mood with fewer mental blocks, you can move forward.
We are conditioned to want results quick, fast, and in a hurry. Unfortunately, behaving in this way creates short term band-aids on issues that have been ingrained inside of you for a LONG time. Unless you are aware and resolve the root cause(s), you will be on a carousel ride until you address it.
You have to do the hard, difficult things for permanent results. For me, I am simply maintaining. This is naturally a busy season. It's full of being a MomUber, short order chef, and household project manager.

No wonder why I was stressed TF out when working in corporate America and highly involved in non-profit organizations. I was juggling all types of balls through all types of hoops, through legs, and over challenging people and situations.
Calming the nervous system and reassessing what is really important takes time. Simply maintaining progress/goals is the only movement required.
Observing.
Taking notes.
Just living.
If you're a woman over 40 trying to navigate changing hormones, raising a family, and nurturing a career. This is difficult, but possible.
Are you ready to let go? And reprioritize?
Spring is around the corner! I will be taking advantage if the time change, longer daylight hours, and (eventually) warmer weather.
