Menopause

A few years ago, I was in my doctor's office for my annual physical. We were catching up on life. I was telling her how I was feeling.. She responded with, "You're entering menopause gracefully." I cracked up. Then, I realized I was in my mid-40s and it was a real possibility! To be honest, I could have totally shut it down once Aric was born. The idea of giving birth for a third time was NOT an idea. SHUT.IT.DOWN! Take it out. I don't need it.

On Sunday, I was cooking and binge watching YouTube when I spotted one of my favorite couples Markus and Cara from The Healthy Life. They were discussing hormone therapy, why you want to avoid it, and how you can ease your way into menopause. Eating a vegan diet and exercise were on top of the list. Why a vegan diet? Animal products contain additional hormones that work against your body especially during this transition. I'm not 100% vegan but pretty DARN close to it. My diet has always been a priority due to family history of breast cancer, allergies, and eczema. My cycles are uneventful. I'm totally in peri-menopause but...I have no stereotypical symptoms. After completing two liver cleanses, the occasional night sweats disappeared (hopefully I didn't jinx myself).

If you can change ONE thing in your life, change your diet. Incorporate intermittent fasting. Cut the caffeine. You will sleep more soundly, be more alert, and help yourself enter menopause gracefully!

Sunday is a typical food prep day. This allows me to make food in advance to have quick meals without reaching for fast or processed foods. Here's a few things I made:

ree

Spinach with garlic, peppers, green onions, and tomatoes

ree

Brussel Sprouts

ree

Granola

Not shown: Jasmine rice and oatmeal

Will this last the week? NO! But...it set the stage for healthy eating for the week.

Hugs!

ree

I too am "at that age" with the transition to conclude my child bearing years. I don't want anymore children (I am age 50) but I viewed my ability to conceive as a strength. Now that specific super power is waning, so I have to focus on other traits.

For me, that is being able to walk a few miles a week, take vitamin supplements rather than prescription meds, maintain a moderate level of health. Yes, I can and should do more. I am very cognizant that I have more years behind me than ahead. My goal is to have a good quality of life, with good health.

We can do it! I'm in the process of learning more so we can live in balance during and after this change. I'll continue to write about what I learn and continue to share.
